Plumb Hill Playing Fields/Litchfield High School, CT
The student-athletes at Litchfield High School in Connecticut compete in a handful of sports at the Plumb Hill Playing Fields, which sit adjacent to the school’s campus. The area, which is funded by a dedicated community group, houses four fields and an eight-lane running track. In the summer of 2020, it was time for the track to be resurfaced.
The existing track at the Plumb Hill Playing Fields was Mondo – prefabricated, rolled track material. The Mondo held up well enough that ATT Sports could resurface the track and did not need to remove it to build a new one from scratch. Of course, this presented its own set of challenges. Mondo has seams, which, over time, can widen and allow moisture to reach the asphalt below. The heavy use of the track also led to heavy wear and varied textures to address.
To ensure the best possible outcome for the longevity of the new track surfacing, the project called for a seal coat over the existing surfacing as well as a leveling course to address low spots. After that, ATT Sports put down the 5mm Rekortan Resurface that will push the useful life of the track well into the next decade.
While the facility is connected to Litchfield High School, it’s also utilized by Wamogo High School. The proximity to popular hiking and running trails also makes the track a popular exercise and training spot for members of the local community.
We were proud to provide an upgraded facility to everyone who will utilize it and would like to thank Plumb Hill Playing Fields and Ed Fabbri for partnering with ATT Sports.
