James Buchanan High School, PA

There are many different ways for schools districts to invest in their facilities, but every decision is about a balance between cost and longevity. At ATT Sports, we have always believe investing in a quality running track is smart. An upgraded surface will last longer, and while the initial cost might be more, the cost of ownership over 30 years is actually lower – all the while, giving student athletes a better running surface.

James Buchanan High School was faced with just such a decision wither their aging running track. At over 20 years old, the track was a porous “mat and spray” system. The school maintained the track expertly and resurfaced on schedule. That still required a multi six-figure investment every 7 or 8 years though.

This is where the “sandwich system” running track shines. The system has a 5mm wearing course, opposed to just 1mm or 2mm with a spray. Not only is the expected life well over 10 years before needing a resurface, but a “sandwich system” track will maintain being in a safe condition far longer than any lesser system.

The Rockets also upgraded aesthetically as well, opting for a black and green track that stands out and is undeniably James Buchanan High School.

For the work, ATT Sports partnered with Schlouch, Inc., who handled the asphalt work required, along with the construction of a new all-weather javelin runway.
