Central High School, PA
Even the best-laid plans can come unraveled once the work begins on a project, and that’s precisely what happened when ATT Sports came to Central High School for what was supposed to be a mill-and-pave and a new Spurtan BV installation.
Once the milling began, it became clear the remaining asphalt could not support a top course and new track. Once ATT’s paving partner on the project, New Enterprise, removed the remaining asphalt, it became clear the sub base would not support new asphalt and a new track.
Working with school budgets means being cognizant of every dollar spent, and when a project surprises everyone like Central High School did, all sides need to come together and figure out the best solution.
The solution was for the original eight-lane track to be reduced to six lanes. The savings was passed on to the school to help mitigate the new expenses. In the end, a sub base of geogrid and two layers of stone was installed for the asphalt to lay on top of. New Enterprise was able to build fantastic base for our track, and we put down our surface.
While the entire project called for more funds than what was originally planned, Central High School now has a track that is built properly and will stand for decades.
ATT Sports can’t thank its subcontractors, New Enterprise and WG Land, enough for their input, assistance and flexibility. The project’s designer, K & W Engineers, and the officials at the Roaring Spring School District were fantastic, understanding partners as well.
